R.G.B - Upload

Hi there, Darts here !

So a lot happen since the last time I've updated this project and I will get right to it. But before that, I would like to use this first devlog to recap the whole project since its conception.

This game was a school project which we had 5 days to realize. I came up with this while thinking about those old Roguelike games from the 80's and 90's, I wanted to do something similar to those and at the time, with only 2 months of programming experience, I think I did a pretty good job at it. All assets were made by me, this also includes the soundtrack. They weren't the best but they serve their purposes at least.

Some time after, I'd decided to fix some stuff and implement new features while on vacation. The bugs were pretty much patched up for the most part, even though there was still a pesky bug that stick to the end. I'd also changed how you navigate in the dungeon, making it for a more smooth experience. However, there was still stuff I want to add into the game but didn't have much time left to do so.

And this is where we are today! With this game being one of my final project, I've had plenty of time to add these new features and then some!

For starters, I renamed the game to "Randomly Generated Bastille", a more creative name than just "Rogue Dungeon". You've noticed that the initials are "R.G.B" and indeed, this inspired to make a new key feature for the game that would resolve around it.

Each floor, the dungeon changes color and depending on how much one color there is compared to the other, your stats and the enemies' one will be changed. For example, if the current floor is red, your attack will rise up and as well for your opponents. As it stands, it is very basic and doesn't offer a great variety for strategy, if it offers at all, but I'm thinking about extending it in an other update.

As in general, I would say that everything was upgraded to some degree. There are new enemies, new items, new music, basically the whole lot, making it for a more fleshed out experience. I also wanted to add more juice to the game, by the means of more animation, particle effects and sound effects. Even the older assets got updated with a fresh coat of paint!

There are quite a few new features added to the game, I won't recap all of them but the major ones, at least to me :

-Options to change the volume

-A randomizer for your name

-A leaderboard with scores to beat

-A pause menu (yes it wasn't there before)

-A map and a mini-map.

Working a third time on this project made me realize something, this would be an awesome thing if I keep updating it and see how much I evolve through out the years and that's what I will do! Every once in a while, after acquiring more programming skills, I will come back to this game and add something new or fix something already there. In the game page, I will share the previous builds of the game for anyone to download and notice the changes from themselves. Heck, the jump from the first version to this current one is already massive so who knows what will happen in years from now.

There are already some stuff that I would like to implement, mainly more purpose for the whole color per level mechanic but this would have to be for an another time as I have still some work to do on the side.

Anyways, this concludes the devlog. See you around!
